Made In Chelsea star Sam Vanderpump nearly died following terrifying sepsis diagnosis

Made In Chelsea cast member Sam Vanderpump has revealed he almost died after being diagnosed with sepsis.

The 27-year-old reality star has admitted he “thought he was going to die” and praised his girlfriend’s quick actions.

The horrifying experience took place back in December, but it’s only now that Sam is able to share just how bad it was. And how he is lucky to be alive.

Made In Chelsea’s Sam Vanderpump ‘almost died’

Sam, who is related to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills icon Lisa Vanderpump, has expressed his gratitude for being alive today after he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

The Made In Chelsea cast member initially thought he had flu. But his condition began to worsen and his girlfriend, Alice Yaxley, realised something was seriously wrong. Doctors later informed him if he waited one more day to go to hospital, it may have been too late to save him.

Struggling with an infection, Sam developed sepsis, which caused extreme concern for his mum and girlfriend.

Speaking to The Mail,  Sam explained: “I thought I was going to die. I didn’t think my body could cope and that was the scariest thing. It was terrifying.”

While he was delirious for most of the time, he does recall a conversation in the hospital between him and the doctors.

He said: “I remember the doctor saying to me that I was going into liver and kidney failure. I burst into tears. My mum didn’t react badly. You would expect her to be in complete meltdown. But she didn’t want to scare me.”

Sam recalls feeling “pain and uncomfortableness” and knew his body was “really fighting” to keep him alive. But despite the fight, Sam feared he would ever “see the outside of the hospital again”.

Looking back, Sam gives full credit to his girlfriend for saving his life.

Sam knows it could have been a lot worse

The reality TV star continued: “They told my mum if I had got to the hospital 24-48 hours later, I wouldn’t have made it. By calling the ambulance, my girlfriend literally saved my life.”

Due to the state of his condition, Sam went on to suffer jaundice, which turned his skin and eyes yellow.

Now, Sam is trying to raise awareness for sepsis. Posting on Instagram, he wrote: “Been a crazy month. Everyone needs to read this. Sepsis kills 134,000 people every day. Please research and if you spot any signs get to the hospital.”
