Pauline Quirke is “struggling to identify members of her own family”, one of the co-creators of her hit sitcom Birds of a Feather has claimed.
Actress Pauline found fame in the 1990s as Sharon Theodopolopodous alongside best pal Linda Robson.
Now, Maurice Gran, who co-wrote the series alongside Laurence Marks, has shared his “sadness” over Pauline’s dementia diagnosis. He has also given a heartbreaking update.

Pauline Quirke dementia update
Maurice said Lesley Joseph called him shortly before Pauline’s husband Steve Sheen made the news of her diagnosis public.
Pauline was diagnosed with the progressive brain disease in 2021. Her family decided to share the news earlier this year, to “stop all the speculation”.
It couldn’t be sadder.
Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “Last month, Lesley phoned me to ask if Pauline’s husband, Steve Sheen, had been in touch. I told her no. ‘Well,’ said Lesley, ‘he’s going to go public about Pauline to put a stop to all the speculation.’”
Maurice then shared a heartbreaking update.
“Since the diagnosis, her condition has gathered pace. She’s still only 65 so your heart goes out to her. Initially, she felt she was beginning to lose her grip. Now, we understand she struggles to identify members of her own family.”
Paying tribute to Pauline’s talent, he then added: “It couldn’t be sadder.”
ED! has contacted Pauline’s reps for comment.

Linda Robson’s tears
The news comes after Linda Robson, who played Tracey Stubbs in the sitcom, broke down in tears on Loose Women discussing her friend’s diagnosis.
Touching on the topic, a visibly emotional Linda insisted of Pauline Quirke’s battle with dementia: “It is private, I don’t want to talk about her illness at all.”
However, she did open up about their “incredible bond”. Linda explained how they had known each other since 10 years old, stating: “We had such amazing times together.”
