TV’s Dr Michael Mosley left an estate worth just over £1.7m to his wife of 37 years after his death in June, it’s been reported.
A coroner recorded accidental heatstroke as Michael’s cause of death. He’d gone hiking by himself on the Greek island of Symi. The walk he set out on is supposed to be achievable in less than an hour.
However, sadly body was found days later, less than 200 yards from safety.
Michael’s widow, Dr Clare Bailey, made an appearance on the late TV star’s then-upcoming Channel 5 project, Wonders Of The Human Body, a month and a half after his passing. Now her inheritance appears to have been revealed…
Dr Michael Mosley leaves £1.7m estate to wife Clare Bailey
Before legal fees, the value of the doctor’s estate was £1,750,432, it’s claimed. That went down to £1,738,654, The Sun reports, after necessary legal costs.
Michael signed off on his will in February 2014. It is said to have contained instructions to leave all of his assets, including property, cash and book and TV royalties to Clare.
It also included a back-up provision that directed funds to his four children, in the event that she died before him.
Michael’s four children, Alex, Dan, Jack and Kate, joined the search effort to recover his body. They all gave evidence to confirm the details of his trip to Symi, as part of a probe into the cause of his death.
Buckinghamshire senior coroner Crispin Butler said his death was “most likely attributable either to heatstroke (accidental) or a non-identified pathological cause”.
He was “energetic and cheerful” as he set off. The doctor had a rucksack containing a litre of water and a biscuit, a hat and an umbrella with him. And, tragically, he left his phone at the house to avoid it getting wet on the ferry to the island.
Clare Bailey’s statement on husband’s death
Shortly after Dr Michael Mosley’s death at the beginning of June, his wife Dr Clare Bailey thanked fans for their support. She then announced she would be taking a break from public life and social media.
“Thank you all for your wonderfully supportive messages,” she began. “The outpouring of love from so many people has meant a huge amount to me and my family.
“I’m going to be quiet for a while. I’m sure you will understand. But I will be back here soon. I very much want to continue with the work that gave Michael and myself so much joy and such a sense of purpose.
“Once more, thank you so much for respecting my family’s privacy so kindly.
“Michael was an amazing man. Thank you for seeing that too. We miss him so much.”
